Can you go through your day and eat without worrying about numbers or the next diet you should go on??
Intuitive eating is when you can make choices not only based on what you feel like eating but also on what will nourish your body.
It is the ability to know whether you are hungry or not and how to pair foods together that will feed your body AND your mind/soul.
When you are pregnant, postpartum, or simply a mom, the ability to eat intuitively can get thrown out the window.
Here are some thoughts that my clients have shared with me:
- I feel so big that I eat a smoothing or salad. Then I end up binging later on treats before bed
- I am trying out keto/whole30/vegan/etc… diets to try to lose the baby weight
- My heartburn is killing me, but I just end up eating junk and popping a bunch of tums
- I feel sick all day from morning sickness that all I am eating is crackers and soda
- I hate how my body looks postpartum. I don’t know what diet to try.
- I have gestational diabetes, and I am tracking every number, and I am still struggling. I want to give up
- I can not eat enough while breastfeeding. I am starving!! I just end up eating tons of carbs and feeling bad about it.
Sound familiar? I bet you have your own list of words that cross your brain each time you sit down for a meal.
What if I told you—
A- I understand because I have been there
B- I can help!
Every client I work with goes through my Intro to Nutrition Course. It is a self-paced e-course geared towards pregnancy and postpartum, BUT it benefits anyone.
Here are a few things in the course that can help you learn to eat intuitively in seasons when your body is having a hard time.
- Don’t meal plan BUT meal prep. – Instead of scheduling out precisely what you will eat each meal, make a few proteins, carbs, and veggies that you can mix and match with different seasonings/sauces. That way, you have food ready BUT can cater it to your mood that day
- Take deep breaths BEFORE reaching for food AND BEFORE intaking your food. Your body needs to be in a parasympathetic state when eating – in layman’s terms- you need to be in a restful state to digest. You are what you digest, not what you eat.
- Don’t think about your diet daily- think of it as an average. There will be times of the month when you eat differently. Let your body ebb and flow as it needs to.
- When thinking about trying to lose weight or feel better in your body- remember protein and fat are kings. These will sustain your energy the longest. If you want to feel fuller longer and have more sustained energy, don’t skimp on the protein and fat!
