Listen, I love to prep for the future. I am often thinking about the future. It is a struggle of mine to be present. When you have a child, prepping for the future can be a challenge.
Let’s start with clothes/shoes – If you like to shop for a deal (like most parents) it can be really tempting to purchase for future seasons. However, I find that most people don’t actually go through what they buy. I suggest buying for only 1 season ahead. UNLESS you find something really quality like a pair of shoes or a nice outfit for a wedding/holiday. Your child will not grow consistently and it can be hard to guesstimate what will fit. (Plus as they get older they begin having more opinions on what they will wear)
Sell your items/declutter- I have sold my son’s ripped jeans for money. Facebook marketplace is a great place to sell your used kid’s items. Declutter their items and sell them as a set for a season.
Toys- Don’t buy much ahead of time. Kids are the best at being SUPER into 1-2 items and WHAT those items are will always surprise you. Kids DO NOT NEED MUCH. If you can’t clean up your playroom in 5-10 minutes…you have too much stuff. Stick to items that are “open-ended”, “imaginative”, or “Montessori” style toys. These will stand the test of time and stretch many ages. I also find it great to rotate toys so they don’t get bored.
Baby registry items- You don’t need as much as you think BUT it can be hard because you are registering for items and want to make sure you get enough. Go with items that will extend past the first few months.
