How to organize your home with a new baby

how to organize your home with a new baby

Pinterest and social media really makes our homes seem frumpy huh?

How many people do you know personally who have an aesthetically pleasing home? It probably isn’t many. Most homes need to run functionally over aesthetically. That doesn’t mean you won’t have a cute pinterest-y home BUT sometimes we need to focus on function.

Examples:

Where is your laundry basket? It is easily accessible? Can you tell when the laundry is getting full? We store ours in our little hallway. That way I can tell when it is getting full. Is it pretty? No, It is just a basic grey basic (we don’t have much grey in our home…) BUT it works.

Where do you store your shoes and socks? Do you try to get it back to everyone’s rooms? Maybe having a basket of both by the door will help things go quicker in the morning?

How do you store your clothes? Is time to stop folding/hanging your kid’s clothes or just hang a few? How wrinkly do they get anyways and who really is judging your child for their clothes…(the people who do care probably don’t deserve your attention)? Some families store ALL their kid’s clothes in the laundry room or have a family closet.

What type of bins/containers do you have? They probably cost a pretty penny huh? And they probably didn’t end up being as functional as you thought. You don’t need to have everything match. It is better to minimize your stuff and have functional storage than baskets that look pretty.

In what ways can you transform your home to be more functional? Do you need to move your vacuum/broom somewhere more accessible? Are your shoes just going to need to be by the front door? Do your kids need an extra toothbrush in the kitchen so it is easier to remember to have them brush them?

Think about how you can make your home work for you and your family! Sure Pinterest and social media images of homes look amazing but more often than not they are simply hiding the mess. I am someone who really enjoys my home to be more aesthetically pleasing. I have to work hard to keep things minimized and de-clutter often to have this happen. Then I remind myself that sometimes we need a few things to be functional not only for ease day to day but also for my bank account!
What ways can you change things around to be more functional?
