6 Best C-Section Recovery Must Haves

C-sections tend to come up unexpectedly. Many women don’t plan on having one. That is why it is important to be prepared ahead of time just in case. This list is perfect to have in your delivery bag folder. That way you can pull it out in the event you end up needing a c-section.

Easy liquids for your first meal- You just had MAJOR abdominal surgery, can you imagine having a bunch of gas or throwing up after your c-section?? You are going to want to go slow with the food for the first week or two!

You will probably be given clear liquids first. After that, I really encourage sticking to nourishing bone broth soups for a few days. I know you are hungry! Remember we want to heal and allow our bodies to calm down. Even if you focus on eating soft warm foods for 1 week then start other foods slowly.

Stool Softeners- We want to focus on easily digestible fiber after birth, but also take a stool softener. Just trust me. Pooping after delivery can feel scary.

Belly wrap- Having a belly wrap after your c-section is a wonderful way to feel secure. You will not only be really sore but also flabby and squishy. A belly wrap can help like these HERE

Bleeding- You will bleed. I know you had a c-section but you also haven’t had a period for 9 months…Expect to bleed.

Clothes- soft stretchy clothes will be your best friend whether you had a c-section or vaginal birth. High-waisted underwear OR adult diapers will be your best friend. Such as these

Pain in the vagina- You had a c-section so you may not think you will be in pain down there…that is not always the case. Especially if you had an emergency c-section. Your hospital will give you a peri bottle but you can also purchase your own like these HERE

Nursing/feeding- You are not going to be able to move very well. Having a good nursing pillow will come in a clutch. This will help your little one get in a good position to nurse or take a bottle.

Co-sleeper- Whether you are having a c-section or vaginal birth, a co-sleeper will help you those first 2 weeks as you need to pick up a baby often for feedings. There are tons of great co-sleeper options out there like THESE. Trust me, you are not going to want to sit up or stand up.
