Does a Minimal Life Exist with Kids???

Can you live minimally with small children??
I do not classify myself as a minimalist BUT I do strive to live minimally. When I was pregnant with my first I was googling everything minimalist. I didn’t want to be bombarded with stuff in my house.

Here are a few things that help me keep my house relatively minimal, picked up, and organized.

  1. Declutter OFTEN- I’m talking every month. “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” from Marie Kondo actually helped me a ton. Plus if you follow any minimalist account, you will see them consistently declutter their home.
  2. Boundaries- Set up a baby/kid area and a specific amount of storage bins. If you run out of space you have to make decisions on what to keep. Don’t get sucked into keeping more.
  3. Rotate kid’s toys- Only have a few toys/baby items out at a time. Store the rest away and switch out every week->month. Set up a system and stick to it.
  4. Don’t prep too much for the future- Stop hoarding away for the future. Children are constantly growing and changing. Having a small number of items that you gather from consignment sales is fine BUT their growth patterns are not consistent and it can be hard to guestimate what you will need. Stick to storing 1-2 seasons ahead and no more.
